This beautiful nature themed ceramic luminary is handcrafted in a family workshop in the community of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. The intricate designs are etched by hand using a sharpened bicycle spoke. Each luminary is created out of local clay, turned on a kick wheel, hand-painted, and wood-fired in a beehive-shaped kiln. Artisans receive business training and product development/design and no-interest micro-loans and direct grants for workshop capacity building. This holistic approach to business enables our artisan partners to grow their businesses and access new markets without creating cycles of dependency. Your purchase does good!
