The Mug is hand–painted by artisans in the traditional ceramic village of Bat Trang, Vietnam, a village just outside of Hanoi that is known for its traditional ceramics. The piece is formed in a mold and then hand–painted with glaze. Bat Trang village was established in the 14th century to supply ceramics to the royal household. Pottery making is one of the most ancient traditions in Vietnam.

I M P A C T

Each piece of olive wood is carved using rudimentary tools, giving the bowl unique marks left by the hand  of the artisan.  The bone accent is crafted using the "batik" process which is an age old art used in Africa.  The patterns are applied by placing wax on the white bone and dipping the bone into a dark brown/black dye, resulting in the beautiful African mud cloth designs. 

Fair Trade is so much more than a product assortment. It's about safe workplaces, fair wages + community investment.  By purchasing according to your values, you become part of this success story and help alleviate poverty for this generation and beyond!

Through sales of their products, small local farmers are able to reinvest incomes into their local communities. Noah's Ark International Exports is a fair trade handicraft marketing organization in Moradabad, India. Noah's Ark provides benefits such as education and medical treatment for artisans and their families. As artisan businesses become more self-sufficient, Noah's Ark takes on new families. Since the company's inception, about 20 artisan workshops have become independent.

Noah's Ark started in 1986, in one room of a family house in Moradabad. Businessman Samuel Masih observed that exporters and middlemen were taking advantage of handicraft artisans. He started Noah's Ark to promote these artisans and their crafts.

To combat depression, homelessness, poverty, and further exploitation on the streets, the refugee women are learning a marketable skill:  sewing!
